## What past.dev is

past.dev provides a hosted API for querying current facts from timestamped, unstructured data. You send raw text with the date it happened: emails, meeting transcripts, tickets, support threads, notes. Extraction, entity resolution and graph maintenance run on past.dev's side. A query returns the current answer with source evidence, or an abstained flag when the evidence is insufficient.

The API is deliberately small: five endpoints, one ingestion model. Every answer carries the dated sources it rests on and reports its own cost in dollars, so a result can be audited rather than trusted and cost can be measured per question on a real workload.

## What makes it different

Semantic search returns what resembles the question. past.dev returns which fact currently holds, with prior values dated and sourced. Identity is handled the same way: entity resolution runs at ingestion and keeps running against the existing graph, so the same person seen in email, a transcript and a chat is one node rather than three.

## How we measure it

Benchmark methodology and results are available on the benchmarks page. The harness runs BEAM, LoCoMo on corrected keys and LongMemEval, with baselines and judges in the same table. Retrieval sufficiency on the BEAM 100k split is 93% across all ten abilities, and answering from memory is 20x cheaper per question than resending 1M tokens of history on every call.
