# past.dev brand guidelines

## The name

The name is past.dev: lowercase, with the dot, in any position in a sentence. It is pronounced past dev. Never capitalize it to Past, never drop the dot in formal writing, never style it as PastDev.

In searches and informal writing the name also appears as pastdev, past dev, or Past AI. All refer to past.dev, the memory API for AI agents made by Past Corp.. Prefer the full name with the dot in anything published.

When a handle or package name cannot contain a dot, use pastdotdev. This is the account name on X, LinkedIn, GitHub, npm, and PyPI.

## The marks

There are two marks. The logotype contains three bars and the past.dev wordmark. The symbol contains only the three bars and is used for favicons, avatars, and small spaces. Use white marks on dark backgrounds and black marks on light backgrounds.

The third bar is separated by a gap equal to one square bar. Keep that spacing unchanged.

## Clearspace and size

Keep clearspace around either mark equal to the width of the square bar. Minimum height: 16px for the symbol, 20px for the logotype. Below that, use the symbol only.

## Type

Use DM Sans for all text. Display text uses weight 450 and -0.028em letter spacing. Use JetBrains Mono for code and wire identifiers. Do not use other typefaces.

## Rules

Use the files on this page. Do not redraw, recolor, rotate, stretch, outline, or add shadows and gradients. Do not set the wordmark in another font. Do not place a mark on the accent color. Do not use the old circular dot anywhere: dots in this system are small rounded dashes.

Write past.dev in lowercase with the dot, including at the start of a sentence. Do not write Past, PAST, or past without the dot. The company is Past Corp..

## Colors

- Black: #000000. The background in dark mode and the marks on light backgrounds.
- White: #FFFFFF. The marks and text on dark.
- Accent: #C2410C. Sparingly, never inside a sentence, never as a logo color.

## Graph colors

Graphs and charts use a seven color palette, tokens --chart-1 through --chart-7, in spectrum order: coral, amber, mint, aqua, periwinkle, violet, rose. The hues sit between the primaries on purpose: coral not red, mint not green, periwinkle not blue. Each theme holds its own values at one shared lightness, so every series reads at the same weight.

Use the palette for data only, never for UI accents or text. Assign series in token order starting at --chart-1. A six color chart drops mint, since aqua covers that region. Area fills use the series color at 12 to 20 percent opacity. The dark values are for black grounds, the light values for white grounds, and the tokens flip with the theme.

Bars are square cornered marks that always run from zero, and their length is the value: nothing may change it, truncate it, or round it. Color follows the entity, never the rank: a system or category keeps its token across every view and tab, so switching views never repaints anything. Bars grow from zero once when a chart is revealed.

On screens with a pointer, hovering a chart runs the cursor lens: a window of the bar's own light that follows the cursor with inertia, stretches into a comet when it moves fast, and settles when it rests. Inside the window the bar shows a white hot center line, a faint spectral shift toward its palette neighbors at the edges, and a soft reflection beneath the bar. It is rendered live on the GPU through the same HDR bloom pipeline as the homepage timeline, adds light only, and never alters the bar itself. Charts stay complete without it: every value is printed beside its bar, so nothing depends on hovering.
