--- title: "past.dev for JetBrains IDEs" description: "Junie sessions in a JetBrains IDE become memory, and Junie recalls it with the past_recall tool." canonical: https://past.dev/docs/plugins/jetbrains last-updated: 2026-10-12 --- # past.dev for JetBrains IDEs > Junie sessions in a JetBrains IDE become memory, and Junie recalls it with the past_recall tool. Product: past.dev Plugins. Source: https://past.dev/docs/plugins/jetbrains ### Requirements - A JetBrains IDE, version 2026.2 or later, with Junie. - A project API key and an identity. ### Install the JetBrains plugin 1. Open Settings › Plugins › Marketplace, search for past.dev and install it. The plugin is also on [JetBrains Marketplace](https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/34827-past-dev). 2. Open Settings › Tools › past.dev. Enter the project API key and your identity. If another past.dev plugin already connected this machine, the page shows that connection. 3. Select Send Junie's sessions on the same page, or select Send them on the notice that the IDE shows. The plugin sends nothing before you do this. 4. Ask Junie which past.dev tools it has. `past_recall` is in the list, with nothing to turn on. The project API key starts with `past_sk_`. Create it on the API keys screen of the console at https://app.past.dev. Do not use the project id or the organization's `past_mk_` management key: a plugin cannot ingest or recall with them. The identity is the email or id that every memory from your sessions is attributed to. Recall answers as this identity, so recall stays off until you set one. ### How Junie recalls Junie runs no hooks in the IDE, so recall does not come with every prompt. Junie calls the `past_recall` tool when it needs earlier decisions or work. Other agents in the AI chat can use the tool too, after you turn on the IDE's MCP server in Settings › Tools › MCP Server. ### When Junie sessions are sent - When a session was quiet for 30 minutes, after you allowed sending. - When the IDE quits. - Sessions in the IDE's AI chat and in Junie's terminal are both sent. Sessions from before you connected the plugin are sent only when you ask. Select Send history in the past.dev tool window. It shows the number of sessions and their credit cost first. Each request also carries the name and the version of the IDE, for example DataGrip 2026.2.3. Source code and issues: [pastdotdev/jetbrains-plugin](https://github.com/pastdotdev/jetbrains-plugin).
